With wins hard to come by for both Fiorentina and Cagliari this season, the two Serie A sides will clash in Florence this coming weekend as they aim to stay clear of the league’s drop zone.
As it stands, Fiorentina are 17th on the log with 17 points after 21 matches but will head into their next game on the back of a morale boosting 2-1 win over Bologna in a match that took place at Renato Dall'Ara on Sunday. First-half efforts by Rolando Mandragora and Roberto Piccoli were enough to claim maximum points on away soil while Giovanni Fabbian scored Bologna’s consolation goal in the 88th minute.
Meanwhile, Cagliari currently occupy 15th place with 22 points to their name so far. In their last Serie A outing, Cagliari recorded a 1-0 win over Juventus at home on Saturday, which happened to be their first victory in four matches.
Overall, Fiorentina gathered two wins, two draws and one loss in their last five league ties while Cagliari recorded two victories, two defeats and one stalemate across the same number of games.

In light of Fiorentina’s emotional win over Bologna, coach Paulo Vanoli mentioned that the club struggled amid the passing of club president Rocco Commisso and subsequently dedicated the win to his family.
“These haven’t been easy days. We’ve lost a man and a president who gave so much,” Vanoli said.
“Even though I didn’t know him personally, whenever we spoke he always transmitted values about fighting together. This win is for him and his family.”
