Newcastle United will be looking to avenge their earlier Premier League defeat this season when they host Sunderland AFC at St James' Park on 22 March.
Current Form
The Magpies enter the derby following a vital 1-0 away victory over Chelsea FC on 14 March, and they are undefeated in their last two matches in the English top-flight.
Newcastle defeated Manchester United in their last home game, and the victory snapped their three-match winless run at the St James' Park in the Premier League.
Sunderland AFC, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on 14 March, and their two-match unbeaten run in the league came to an end.
However, the Black Cats are undefeated in their last two away matches in the Premier League, having registered a victory and a draw as the visitors.
Team News
Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Details Lewis Miley, Fabian Schar, and Emil Krafth are currently sidelined due to either injury or illness.
Sunderland, on the other hand, has Nordi Mukiele, Djiamgone Jocelin Ta Bi, Reinildo, Romaine Mundle, Robin Roefs, Bertrand Traore, Enzo Le Fee, and Nilson Angulo on their injury list.
There are no suspension concerns for the two Tyne-Wear clubs.
Quotes
"That was such an important victory with what we have coming up ahead," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said after the win at Chelsea. "I thought the mentality, the effort today was very, very good... now all eyes are on the next big challenge."
Reflecting on the magnitude of the fixture, Sunderland manager Régis Le Bris noted: "The derby is everything for everyone here in the club. We know if we want to be a king here, we have to win the derby".
Head-to-Head
Sunderland claimed bragging rights in the reverse fixture, securing a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light in December 2025.
Therefore, the Black Cats are undefeated in their last 10 Premier League games against the Magpies, having recorded three draws and seven wins.
