Alongside the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa will go into the Players’ Championship as one of the favourites to go all the way at TPC Sawgrass.
What to know about Collin Morikawa
Morikawa has been a professional golfer since 2019 and has made waves on the PGA Tour since his 14th place start at the RBC Canadian Open. Following a fourth-place finish at the John Deere Classic in 2019, Morikawa earned his PGA Tour membership for the 2019/20 season and won his first PGA Tour event shortly thereafter at the Barracuda Championship.
As it stands, the 29-year-old has seven wins on the PGA Tour, including four victories on the European Tour.
Among his most recognized wins, the American claimed the 2020 PGA Championship, while he also won the Open Championship a year later.
Morikawa’s most recent win came at the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM, where he finished one stroke ahead of Min Woo Lee and Sepp Straka in February.
On the European Tour, Morikawa’s last win came at the DP World Tour Championship, where he won the event three strokes ahead of Alexander Bjork and Matt Fitzpatrick in November 2021.
Following his win at Pebble Beach, Morikawa also earned top 10 finishes at the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, indicating his rapid rise in form.
What did he say
Reflecting on the upcoming event, Morikawa believes that he is a much better player now than when he won his last two majors and that he is fixed on correcting his wrongs in the past.
“I would say I’m still a much better golfer now, just because I’ve learned a lot more, and I think I know how to just manage myself,” Morikawa said.
“But swing-wise and body mechanics-wise, like nothing got in the way. I had my tendencies. I knew how to fix those tendencies; whereas last year, two years ago, three years ago, the tendencies were creeping in, but they were creeping in for maybe different reasons.
“And then, like all the things that used to fix it, let’s say I had 10 things that I used to be able to go to, and if I could cross out all 10 of those things, my swing was fixed. Not all 10, but if I just tried one, okay.
“That’s like — when those start not working, then you start thinking like, man, like what’s wrong? And then you go down another rabbit hole and you keep going down these rabbit holes, and eventually you end up digging yourself a grave, unfortunately.”
