Villareal will be keen to get over their morale-deflating loss to Barcelona this past weekend as the Yellow Submarines prepare to take on Elche in their next La Liga assignment at Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday.
While on a relatively positive run in the last couple of weeks, Villareal suffered a damaging 4-1 loss against Barcelona last time out and thus stayed on 51 points from 26 matches played.
Villareal were unable to record a treble of victories in the league following wins against Levante and Valencia prior to the game against Barcelona, while they noted three wins and two defeats in their last five.
As a club striving for European football next season, Villareal are currently fourth on the log, eight points ahead of sixth-placed Real Betis.
Elche on the other hand, are flirting with the relegation zone after recording their 11th draw of the season on Sunday. Elche and Espanyol shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw during matchday 26, taking their tally to 26 points overall.
Regarding their form sheet, Elche recorded three losses and two draws in their last five league ties and are just two points away from the drop zone.

Following Villareal’s defeat to Barcelona, Santi Comesana explained how Pedri stifled his side’s progress on the ball amid a positive period against the log leaders.
"Pedri calmed everything down, he took the ball away from us. With Pedri the match stopped being back and forth," Comesana said.
"Barca had much longer possessions, they did not run after the ball. He filters the pass for the third goal that breaks three defensive lines, and there we give up a little. We tried but we no longer had conviction."
