2025-26 La Liga

Matchday 35

Barcelona v Real Madrid

Camp Nou Stadium, Barcelona

Sunday 10 May, 21:00

Barcelona can win a second successive La Liga title if they avoid defeat against El Clasico rivals Real Madrid at the Camp Nou Stadium on the evening of Sunday 10 May 2026, kick-off at 21:00.

Barcelona’s 2-1 win at Osasuna last weekend means they need no more than a draw in the 264th edition of El Clásico to clinch a 29th top-flight title, although they’ll be keen to win La Liga in style having triumphed in each of their last 10 league games.

Hansi Flick’s side have defied injuries to key players to surge clear at the top, and if beating their rivals to claim the title isn’t enough of an incentive, they will also be spurred on by maintaining the possibility of completing a perfect home campaign in La Liga (17 wins from as many matches as hosts thus far).

Flick has talked down the notion of rubbing salt into Real wounds by winning the title against them, instead talking up their preparation: “We are just focused on the next game. We want to win every game, but we have tough opponents left. We have to play at our best level. It's our philosophy and mentality. I am happy with what I see in training. The squad are focused 100 percent.”

Second-placed Real Madrid trail by 11 points despite beating Espanyol 2-0 last weekend. Off-field problems are mounting for Los Blancos, and Álvaro Arbeloa’s side could do without the distractions of training-ground bust-ups and criticism of Kylian Mbappé’s non-appearance against Espanyol as they attempt to secure back-to-back away league wins for the first time since February.

“In his free time, Mbappe can do whatever he sees fit, like any other player," Arbeloa responded.

In head-to-head stats, Barcelona and Real Madrid have met in 263 matches across all competitions. Los Blancos have claimed 106 wins compared to 105 for Blaugrana, while 52 games have been drawn.

The teams last met in the Supercopa final in Saudi Arabia in January, with Barcelona winning 3-2 thanks to goals from Raphinha (2) and Robert Lewandowski. Real’s strikes came from Vinicius Junior and Gonzalo Garcia.
