Nick Taylor will bid to become the first local player to win the
Canadian Open for the second time when the national championship gets underway on Thursday, June 5.
The Canadian, who is ranked 43 in the world, lifted the trophy on home soil in 2023 after carding a 17-under 271 to beat Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff.
Taylor made a strong start to the year, claiming the fifth PGA Tour victory of his career at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January, although he has only managed two top-10 finishes since then.
The 37-year-old had been in contention to win the Memorial Tournament at the weekend after sharing the lead with Ben Griffin at the halfway stage, but he eventually had to settle for fourth place.
Taylor sunk back-to-back birdies on the front nine in the final round to close within two shots of Scottie Scheffler, only for a double bogey on the 14th to put the American firmly in command as he won by four strokes.
"Scottie's not that good, to be honest," Taylor quipped after the third round when asked what he had to do to catch Scheffler.
"No, it's a tough golf course. I'll be trying to chase him down. He's obviously playing phenomenal, so I'll have to play some of my best golf to be in the hunt there with the last few holes to go."
