La Liga champions Barcelona will return to action against Valencia in their fourth league encounter of the season after a frustrating result against Rayo Vallecano last time out.
After bagging back-to-back victories against Mallorca and Levante, Barcelona could only manage a 1-1 draw with Rayo before the international break. While Lamine Yamal’s 40
th minute penalty gave Barcelona a lead into the break, Fran Perez’ strike in the 67
th minute saw the two sides share the spoils at Estadio de Vallecas.
Barcelona thus dropped down to fourth on the league standings, while Valencia will head into their next tie sitting in ninth position.
Valencia experienced a mixed of results in the league so far, which include a win, draw and defeat in their first three matches.
Nonetheless, Valencia returned to winning ways on Friday, 29 August, where they claimed a dominant 3-0 win against Getafe at Mestalla.
In response to questions of his side being over reliant on Yamal, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed that there are no place for egos in the dressing room.
"No, he's a key player, just like any other. After the break, we'll have worked harder and we'll do better,” Flick said.
"Today [against Rayo] we have to talk about the team, not the players.
“The most important thing for me is that when the transfer window closes, everyone is 100 percent committed. It's important not to have egos; that kills the chances of success."
