2025-26 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 10
Valencia v Villarreal
Estadio de Mestalla
Valencia, Spain
Saturday, 25 October 2025
Kick-off is at 21h0
Villarreal will target a return to winning ways in
La Liga when they make the short trip down the Mediterranean coast to face Valencia at the Mestalla in the late kick-off on Saturday, October 25.
The Yellow Submarine had kept pace with frontrunners Real Madrid and Barcelona early on after winning five of their opening eight matches which included three consecutive victories in September.
But Marcelino's side have faltered this month, picking up just two points out of a possible nine, with a 2-2 draw against Real Betis on October 18 extending their winless run to three games.
The Castellon outfit are now seven and five points adrift of Los Blancos and the Blaugrana respectively in third place, while Atletico Madrid (4th) and Real Betis (5th) are breathing down their necks a further point back.
Los Ches have struggled to get going this season, recording just two wins in nine outings and shipping six goals without reply against Barca last month.
Carlos Corberan's side arrested a two-match losing streak with a 0-0 draw against Alaves on October 20, but it left them without a win in four games and three points clear of the relegation zone in 14th position.
The last 13 encounters between the two teams have all produced goals, although the spoils have been shared in three of their four most recent meetings.
Marcelino, who set a new Villarreal record with his 260th match in charge against Betis, felt a draw was a fair reflection of the contest, although he was disappointed to squander a two-goal lead.
"I'm pleased with the way the team played and with how we faced Betis, who are a great side," the Spaniard said.
"It hurts to have conceded two goals. We weren't solid or particularly efficient. They created more danger than we would have liked.
"Betis are always in the game. It hurts because we were 2-0 up, but it's not an unjust result. They had their chances, and perhaps the draw is the fairest outcome."
