As a player still eager to prove a point at the age of 40, Cristiano Ronaldo will once again be the main man for Roberto Martinez when Portugal take on Germany in the semi-finals of the
UEFA Nations League on Wednesday night.
‘CR7’, as he is known in short, was on the scoresheet during Portugal’s 5-2 win against Denmark in their second-leg, quarter-final clash at Estadio Jose Alvalade on the 23
rd of March.
In the initial encounter between the two nations, Rasmus Hojlund scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 result in Demark’s favour at Parken on the 20
th of March.
With Ronaldo expected to play a leading role against Germany, Martinez expressed that CR7’s leadership qualities can have a positive impact on the younger players in the squad.
“On the field, he is meticulously monitored. Off the field, the players need to show team values, exemplary commitment,” Martinez said.
“When we talk about players like Joao Neves and Mora, having the opportunity to speak to Cristiano helps their performance in the future with the national team.”
