As the biggest winners in matchday one at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Senegal are hot on the heels of Zambia ahead of their next Group A assignment this week.

Senegal put four goals past DR Congo in their WAFCON opener this past weekend, as the likes of Mama Diop and Nguenar Ndiaye shone at Stade El Bachir.

Speaking after Senegal’s win against DR Congo, Lionesses of Teranga coach Mame Moussa Cissé urged his side to forget about their result in preparation for the match against Zambia.

"Now we'll quickly forget this match and focus on the encounter with this great Zambian team,” Cisse said.
“We knew that the start of this competition was going to be very important, because we are in a tough group. We had a tough opponent, the formidable DRC team. We tried to take advantage of their weaknesses.

"We scored three goals in the first twenty minutes, which is what we wanted. There's always that humility. We have to forget what we did well, in order to focus on what we still have to do better. That's how the team will progress.”

Elsewhere, Zambia faced host nation Morocco in their opening tie at the tournament and jotted down a 2-2 draw in the process.

Barbra Banda put Zambia ahead in the first minute of the match, which was then cancelled out by Ibtissam Jraidi from the spot in the 12thminute. Not holding back, Racheal Kundananji then put Zambia ahead shortly before the half-hour mark, while Ghizlane Chebbak had the last say with a leveller in the 87th minute.
