As the host nation of the
2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco will now turn their attention to Mali in their respective quarter-final assignment at the Olympic Stadium this Friday.
The Atlas Lionesses closed off their Group stage campaign with a tense 1-0 win against Senegal at the Olympic Stadium last Saturday.
With Yasmin Mrabet guiding Morocco to victory via a penalty during stoppage time at the end of the first-half, the Atlas Lionesses thus claimed top spot in Group A.
Speaking after their match against Senegal, Morocco coach Jorge Vilda felt as though his side could’ve scored more goals in Rabat.
“The defensive line did its job. They kept the score intact against a strong side,” Vilda said.
“We pushed forward and created chances. We could have scored more, but what mattered was keeping control and protecting the lead.”
Mali will head into the quarter-finals on the back of a 4-0 thrashing against South Africa in Group C at the Honneur Stadium on Monday night.
Despite being leapfrogged by Ghana, the Female Eagles advanced to the competition’s last eight as one of two best third-placed teams.
