Rory McIlroy will be looking to become the second Northern Irish golfer to win the
Open Championship twice after Pádraig Harrington (2007 and 2008).
What to know about McIlroy
The experienced golfer turned professional in 2007 and he has won 44 professional tournaments, including 29 PGA Tour victories and 19 European Tour wins.
McIlroy is a five-time major champion; he is one of six men to achieve a modern career grand slam and the first European to do so.

The six-time European Tour Race to Dubai winner/ DP World Tour Rankings winner was in action at the recent 2025 Scottish Genesis Open, where he finished second.
McIlroy is currently ranked second in the Official World Golf Rankings and has spent over 100 weeks in the top spot during his career.
Why McIlroy is among the favourites
The 36-year-old tends to perform well at the Open Championship, having finished in the top five on six occasions, including a win at the 2014 tournament.
McIlroy is coming into this year's tournament having finished second at the Scottish Genesis Open and he will be confident of winning the golf major for the second time.
