Sepp Straka will be determined to become the first golfer to win back-to-back The American Express titles since Johnny Miller's triumphs in 1975 and 1976.
What to know about Sepp Straka
The Austrian star's best individual finish of Straka's collegiate career came at the 2016 Linger Longer Invitational and the runner-up finish moved him up 80 places to 225th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Straka later turned professional in 2016 and he plays on the PGA Tour, where he has won four titles, having come very close to winning his first major golf championship at The Open Championship in 2023, finishing second.

The last time the 32-year-old played professionally was at the 2025 Hero World Challenge in Albany, New Providence, The Bahamas, where he finished third.
Straka is currently ranked world number 12 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and his best overall ranking is seventh place.

The Birmingham, Alabama, USA-based golfer played some of his best golf in 2025 as he won two PGA Tour events, namely The American Express and Truist Championship.
Straka, who won The American Express by two shots over Justin Thomas, returns to the La Quinta, where his course familiarity and proven success give him the edge over most golfers set to compete this weekend.

"Nerves, just complete nerves. Stomach in a knot, the whole nine. So, yeah, just really excited about the way I handled the pressure today," Straka said after winning The America Express in 2025.
"This golf course, you can't really let up. I think that the biggest challenge today is staying aggressive on my targets. I had a lot of chances for bogeys out there, but the putter saved me a lot of times."
