2024/25 English Premier League
Matchday 21
Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
Emirates Stadium
London, England

Kick-off is at 22h00

The 197th North London derby takes centre stage on matchday 21 as Tottenham look at arrest a five-match winless run against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, January 15.

Spurs have lost four of their last five meetings with their arch-rivals and Ange Postecoglou picked up just one point from the two Premier League encounters last season following his appointment as head coach in July 2023.

Postecoglou's side are struggling for any sort of consistency this term, having only recorded back-to-back wins once - against Brentford and Manchester United at the end of September.

The Lilywhites dropped down to 12th place after being beaten 2-1 by Newcastle on January 4 which left them without a win in their last four outings and picking up just one point during that spell.

The Gunners failed to capitalise on Liverpool's 2-2 draw with the Red Devils after they too only claimed a point in a 1-1 stalemate with Brighton on January 5.

MIkel Arteta's side remain six points behind the Reds in second place, but they allowed Nottingham Forest to close right up on them in third position, with goal difference all that is separating the two teams.

Chelsea fell four points behind them in fourth spot after a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on January 4 extended their winless sequence to four games.

Gabriel Jesus has added to the hosts' injury concerns after he was stretchered off against United in the FA Cup on January 12 with a suspected knee problem. The Brazilian joins Bukayo Saka (thigh), Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu (both knee) and Ethan Nwaneri (muscular) on the sidelines.

Postecoglou has an even lengthier injury list to contend with as Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert (all thigh) and Rodrigo Bentancur (head) are all unavailable for selection, while Fraser Forster is battling with an illness.

Arteta is refusing to dwell on the defeats to the Magpies in the EFL Cup and United in the FA Cup over the past week as he looks to do the league double over Spurs.

"I understand the point, but it's a remarkable week to understand what we did again today after what happened three days ago and what we did to two of the best teams in the moment right now.

"So this is what I take from the result. I understand that and it's extremely disappointing but I cannot put my focus on that. I think it will be very, very, very unfair.

"Regardless of if we would've won the last two games, it's exciting and looking forward to play the biggest game of the season for our supporters and what it means to us."

Postecoglou watched his team survive a scare in the FA Cup on January 12 as they scored three goals in extra time to defeat Tamworth 3-0, but he wasn't concerned that many of the players had to endure 120 of football with their clash against Arsenal just three days away.

"No, no, the main thing is that we got the job done and we got through, whether it's 90 minutes or whatever it was," he said. "We would have preferred to have finished it off earlier but at the end of the day we got through to the next round and that's the main thing."
