2025-26 Spanish La Liga
Matchday 2
Levante v Barcelona
Estadi Ciutat de Valencia
Valencia, Spain
Saturday, 23 August 2025
Kick-off is at 21h30
Barcelona will be looking to build on their impressive start on the road this season when they travel to the Ciutat de Valencia for a clash with Levante on Saturday, August 23.
The Blaugrana kicked off their
La Liga title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over Real Mallorca at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix on August 16 to take top spot ahead of Rayo Vallecano, Getafe, Villarreal, Athletic Bilbao, Alaves and Espanyol on goal difference.
Hansi Flick won the league in his first season at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys after the Catalan giants finished four points ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid at the summit in 2024-25.
Barca reached a century of goals as they scored 102 times in 38 matches, 24 more than the next best team, Los Blancos, while also keeping 13 clean sheets.
Levante are back in the Spanish top flight after a three-year absence, having earned promotion as Segunda Division champions last term.
Julian Calero's side finished two points ahead of Elche with a record of 22 wins, 13 draws and seven defeats, having also scored the most goals (69).
The Frogs suffered a 2-1 loss to Alaves at the Mendizorrotza on August 16 in their first game back in La Liga since 2021-22.
Flick appeared to be unhappy with his team's performance in Palma, claiming they only played at "50 per cent" despite having a numerical advantage for more than an hour following the dismissals of Manu Morlanes (33') and Vedat Muriqi (39').
"I didn't like the match. Yes, it's three important points, but I didn't like the game... After the 0–2 and the two red cards, the team played at 50 per cent," the German said.
"That's something I need to address - I didn't like it. We need to control the ball and the tempo of the game, but we also need to keep scoring. That's the takeaway: we can't be playing at 50 or 60 per cent, even against nine men."
