2025-26 Spanish La Liga

Matchday 30

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona

Estadio Metropolitano

Madrid, Spain

Saturday, 4 April 2026

Kick-off is at 21h00

With Atletico Madrid now effectively out of the title race, they will focus their efforts on securing third place as they prepare to host La Liga leaders Barcelona at the Metropolitano on Saturday, April 4 in the late kick-off.

Los Colchoneros had a chance to close within six points of Real Madrid when they squared off in the Madrid derby on March 22, but a 3-2 defeat ended any hopes they had of hauling in the top two.

Diego Simeone's side trail Los Blancos by 12 points and are a further four adrift of Barca, while Villarreal leapfrogged them into third position with a 3-1 victory over Real Sociedad.

Atleti had won their previous four games on the spin to hold the Yellow Submarine at bay, although the two teams are now separated by one point with nine fixtures remaining in the season.

The Blaugrana were made to work for their narrow 1-0 success against Rayo Vallecano on March 22 which maintained the four-point gap to arch-rivals Real.

Hansi Flick's side have now made it five wins on the spin since suffering a surprise 2-1 loss to Girona on February 16 and they put Newcastle to the sword in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League playoffs to book a date with Atletico in the quarter-finals.

This is the fourth meeting between the two clubs this season, with Barca running out 3-1 victors in the reverse fixture on December 2 before Los Colchoneros triumphed 4-3 on aggregate in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, winning 4-0 in the first leg and losing 3-0 in the second leg.

Simeone bemoaned the mistakes which saw Real battle back from a goal down to get revenge in the derby after being hammered 5-2 back in September, while refusing to blame the referee for this defeat.

"I don't think that's the reason we didn't win," he said. "We had the chance to capitalise on the good opportunities we created, but we weren't able to take that final step and win a match where we at least deserved a bit more.

"We could have done more, controlled the match differently after the 1-0, not made mistakes, managed things better, and we're up against strong opponents who play well and will hurt you at the slightest opportunity."
